Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we embark on the 2024-2025 school year, I want to extend a warm welcome back to each of you. I hope your summer was restful and filled with memorable moments with your families. We are excited to partner with you again this year to support your child's academic growth and well-being.

We are looking forward to having our students back to school on Thursday, August 15, 2024 at 8:00 a.m. Gates will be opened at 7:45 a.m. SDC students enter at the main gate by the main office. Students in grades Preschool, TK, Kinder and 1st grades will enter through the middle gate and students in grades 2nd - 8th grades will enter at the last gate closest to Central. Each gate will be marked. Parents/guardians of our TK and Kinder and 1st grade students will be able to walk their children into the gates and will meet their teachers on the grass area closest to the middle gate. You will find class lines posted and will be directed where to line up. We will allow Preschool, TK, Kinder and 1st grade parents on campus to class lines on Thursday (8/15) and Friday (8/16).

We are welcoming new staff members to our school community:
● Ms. Tiani Haney - TK Teacher
● Ms. Quianna Turner - 3 rd grade Teacher
● Ms. Sara Delgado - Art Teacher

Academic achievement is at the heart of our mission, and I am proud to share some highlights from the past year. Last year, we saw some remarkable achievements that reflect the hard work of our students and staff.

Our focus this year was in the area of mathematics. Our students showed an improvement of about 10%, resulting in 38% student proficiency in math. In ELA, our students showed an improvement of 3.5%, resulting in proficiency of 43%. We reclassified 75 EL Learners, resulting in a 33% reclassification rate, which was an improvement of 4.5% from the previous year.

As it was emphasized this past school year, student attendance was an area of focus and priority, because we know there is a direct correlation to school attendance and student academic achievement. Our final average daily attendance was 94.03% which resulted in an improvement of 2.26%. We were able to decrease our student chronic absenteeism to 15.40%, which was an improvement change of 12.67% from the previous year.

Our goal this year is to continue driving academic success across all subjects. We believe that a strong home-school connection is crucial in achieving this. Your involvement in your child’s education—whether through helping with homework, attending school events, or maintaining open communication with teachers—makes a significant difference.

Attendance is another key factor in academic success. We ask for your support in ensuring that your child attends school every day, on time, and ready to learn. Regular attendance not only helps students keep up with their studies but also fosters a sense of responsibility and commitment that will benefit them throughout their lives.

Together, we can create an environment where every student thrives. We are here to support you and your child every step of the way, and we look forward to another successful year of learning and growth.

Thank you for your continued partnership.
